Plethysmography is a widely used technique to assess breathing parameters in conscious and spontaneously breathing animals. Additional outcomes provide deeper insight into lung function, such as two validated indexes representative of airflow obstruction: EF50 (flow at mid-tidal expiratory volume) and sRaw (specific airway resistance) are derived.
This document discusses:
- Specific airway resistance (sRaw)
- How sRaw is measured
- Mathematical and physiological description
- Advantages and limitations
- Review of applications and publicationsusing sRaw
